I've not played much with MOSS and SP07... but SP07 does have a "Relink documents to this Library" link. I don't know exactly what this does, but it sounds like it might do what you are looking for without the need to save out and back. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong--which I probably am :o)

Just to clarify (for XPath newbies), the "@" character stands for "attribute" as opposed to "element". You are required to use the @ when you are accessing an attribute.
So
/XPath/@attribute-without-a-namespace
/XPath/@my:attribute-with-a-namespace
If this were an element instead of an attribute it would ...

First lets make sure we are on the same terminology:
"Form Fields" are those fields in your form template that, when editing a form, you enter data into. These are saved as part of the form XML or to a database.

Repeating tables are stored in the DOM. The view is just a representation of the DOM. To do this, just write code to add XML to the DOM ...

If you have a base64 field in your form, you can load a file via C#, convert it to base64 and then populate that field with the converted base64 value.

Instead of using default value formulas, you can use rules to set those secondary data source fields with the translated values when the original field gets updated.

Sorry, this is not a supported task. Your user can manually export to PDF (if they have the PDF/XSF add on installed in Office 2007) and then mail that. I don't know of any other solution.

Are you talking about promoted properties? These new properties do not get populated automatically for old/existing forms. You will need to export (save) and then import those old forms back into SharePoint for it to grab those values.

I don't have any specific links, but its just standard XPath syntax you would likely need to brush up on.
