That's correct that you don't use sum()  (sum is for columns, like in a repeating table --- you only enter one field for sum).  Are you typing in "field1" or are you clicking "add a field" then selecting it?

I have several sections (sec1...sec5). Logic is: If user "A" opens up the form, only sec4 should be visible to him/her If User "D" opens up the form, only say sec1 should be visible to him/her

Thanks for the reply, I could use Now() for when the form is opened but not when they finish completing the form.  I forgot to mention that I have two fields (start and finish) that need to be populated with the time.
