I would certainly try eliminating the space character to see if that fixes it.
As an alternative you can use an underscore, a dash, or "%20" which is stranslated into a space character in URLs.

JScript has a sneaky way of doing this that is not commonly known--and something you would certainly never think of on your own...
myFunctionAccessName = function btnOBSRollUpQuery::OnClick(eventObj)
{
code
}
var queryCheck = XDocument.DOM.selectSingleNode("/dfs:myFields/my:FormData/my:QUERY_CHECK").text;
if (queryCheck ...

Something is definitely wrong. There should only be a single <xsf:editing/> node per <xsf:view/>. If you have more than one per view, this is wrong--and bad. I can't say what might be causing it. It would be helpful to be able to track down exactly what is causing the insertion of an additional editing tag. If it is as simple as ...

One problem you have is in your push() statement. You are doing a selectSingleNode() when you don't need to because it is already being done by nextNode().
var xmlContributors = XDocument.DOM.selectNodes("dfs:myFields/my:EmailedTo");
var xmlContributor;

What language is InfoPath set to use? If VBScript, that's why it doesn't understand 'var'. If you are using Managed Code through Visual Studio, then you would be using VB.NET or C# -- neither of which understand 'var'.
Look under Tools | Options to find out what language your form is set to be using.

This is the fault of SharePoint not doing the right thing.
This topic has been discussed before... you should be able to find information about what to do in these forums. I don't have exact details, and there might be better ways to do it, but I believe that if you export your form files and then reimport them, that this will trigger ...

Reading over the help paragraph describing importNode, I'm not sure this will do what you are expecting it to do. However, let me know whether you have success with this.
Thanks!

Changing the data type in your schema should not affect the values stored in the field in your forms (except for possibly marking them as invalid values).
XPath calculations work against strings as well as numbers. Normally, XPath doesn't care about the data type. However, if you want to be sure a values is treated as a number, use the ...

When you converted the node from Text to Double, you left it as not required, which is why the xsi:nil attribte was placed on the fields. If you have a Double that your mark as required, there will be no xsi:nil.
Now, can you use that information to create a fix? Perhaps. It depends on the process you went through the first time and how many ...

You can write an XSL to convert the XML from the original format to the new format. Then you can append the new XML genereated by the XSL.
