We'd expect the third field to be disabled with the comparision of is not blank -- the comparative is already defined. We select a value in the third drop down when we use something like "equals". Field1 = Field2, for example. But Field1 is blank (is not blank, is present, is not present) is a complete condition. I think ...

Are you suggesting I set a new Rule for the drop down list? I tried but when I Set Condition and choose "is not blank", the 3rd field in Condition dialog (of Rule) goes gray (I can't select anything).

Hi NM, you should use a regular table in InfoPath, non repeating. Name the field in your form for what the metric is, that way the column in SharePoint will export that name to Excel for reporting. Hi Ted and Hilary, Apologies for not posting back on this, but yes it seems to have done the trick. The XML include didn't work for me, but I've now placed a string field within the form which stores the document type name and all seems fine. Just need to get them to use the same columns within the form library now ...
