There is a checkbox in the control properties dialog under default values called "Refresh value when formula is recalculated". Make sure this is unchecked and the value won't be refreshed each time you open the form.

Hi Corrie,
There is no IF function in XPath. You probably need to use InfoPath rules to get the behavior you want. What exactly are you trying to do?

Try pasting this as your formula:
concat(msxsl:format-date(now(), "dd-MMM-yyyy"), msxsl:format-time(now(), " hh:mmtt"))

Your initial formula max(@ID_Num) + 1 looks correct, but you say that the file already exists in your library. Does ID_Num and the file name have any correlation? Are you sure that max(ID_Num) is returning the correct value?
I don't believe the problem here is a int/string issue.

If you are only concerned with counting the values of B, you can have a temporary variable keep a count of how many instances of B there are in the dropdown. When a dropdown is set, simply check whether the value is B and then increment your temp variable. If the value ever goes above 2, you can show a validation error.

Ah yes, that is certainly possible. If you only plan to have a few Names (~4 to 5), then adding a rules for each is probably the quickest way. If you have lots of names then you can create a secondary data connection to your SharePoint list and use query fields to search for the description that matched the selected name. You can ...
