You need to look under tools / form options / versioning -- make sure the form is set to upgrade existing XML.
If it is, there may be an issue with the latest version it is set to upgrade, but first make sure that it is set to upgrade.

Sorry, I didn't realise this thread was still open. Anyway, I was very new to infopath and sharepoint and I couldn't add the repeating tables to the form because I was using a SP list rather than a SP forms library/Document library so the repeating table control wasn't available.
