Hello & welcome. I take it you've published your form correctly to the library. Did you add a Submit connection to your form that submits to that same SharePoint library? Here's an Office Online article - it is for IP 2007, but regardless of your version it should be close to the same ....

Just so you know what was happening - the validation rule was using the full XPath to each of the checkbox fields. Since those were in a repeating group, the full XPath would always return the first instance. Moving the field into the repeating group means the formula will be totalling only the checkbox fields inside that instance of the group.

To which link are you referring?  The swits.net link that goes to a generic domain parking page, as swits.net has apparently closed down?  Alec's link does have a solution to this question and none of the things you describe.
