I still don't know if you are looking for unique per parent, or universally unique, so I added a second field for universally unique and added defaults to both. Hope this sample helps!

I must not be expressing myself clearly. I understand what you have in place in the duplicates XSN. I do NOT understand your desired outcome in the Sample XSN. If there are, for example, two parent groups, and in each of those parent groups there is a child with a value of Merge=123, is that a duplicate? Or is it only a duplicate if there are two ...

Yah, attach a screen shot showing sample.xsn in preview, with some data, and show me the duplicate items - I'm not sure if you are looking for dupes in single parent group or over all.

So - what is it you want a count of? "an equal counterpart" of what? What makes something a duplicate in the child group in Sample.xsn? EDITED to add - You want to know if there is more than instance of the value of the Merged field? Per parent group? Or overall?

Can you attach a screenshot or something? Under the Options tab - or even your form with some direction on where you are seeing the issue.

Just use an XML file in the form. Create an XML file with your 40 options - add it to the form as a resource file - create a data connection to the XML file - use that as the data source for your various drop downs.

You have my email - can you send me both files? I'd like to diff them in WinMerge.

qRules will initially increase the file size because of adding a code DLL and data connection. I've not seen a re-save causing the size to increase again - I'll see if I can reproduce this (it will be later this week or early next before I have a chance).

Oh, this is tough. I think if you save a signed form and take a look, the signature will actually be a node that you won't see in your fields task pane - so none of those will work. The actual node that gets added is "Signature". I wonder if you can add another field and have a default value that checks for the presence of that ...

Is this Phone Directory List a SharePoint List? You would have to customize the list form or you would need to use code, qRules or CAML to write back to a list if the form is not a list form. I'm sorry, this is just not something InfoPath does easily out of the box.
