Here's a sample. Save the linked file locally, right click the saved file and select design to open in design mode. Then you can preview. My button has two rules - the second rule is where you'd put the submit action, I just have a close form action. Take a look and let me know if you have questions.

Is this rich text? or plain text? I'm curious why the character limit isn't providing the desired outcome.... validation rules can use regular expressions, so there may be a way to do it with validation.

So - is this form based on a database? That is - is the email field in the main data source or a secondary data source? From your screenshots, it looks like the main data source. :) It sounds from the error message like your formula is not always returning a value. You can put (temporarily) a calculated value on your form where you use the same ...

Okay - if admin deploy isn't possible, I guess the next thing I'd do is test the template without qRules - I can remove qRules from a copy of the form, you can publish it to a new test library, and then you can see if the issue is reproduced in the form when it doesn't have code (and thus is not in the sandbox).

So - I would start by trying to narrow down the issue.
Since your form has qRules and is published directly to a form library, it is in the SharePoint Sandbox. I think it would be a good test to try the form outside of the sandbox and see if you have the same issue.
Is it possible for you to publish the form as admin approved and ...

Mystery solved! I see the same thing with rules - where there is confusion as to why a rule didn't fire & it turns out the field w/ the rule didn't change. Yah, reset that field after your code completes - maybe go with a try/catch/finally and reset in the finally so it is always ready to go again. :)

What's the formula for the total field? Click the Edit XPath checkbox and paste in the full formula - as well as the XPath to the Optional section field....

So this runs when my:myFields/my:HiddenFields/my:GCCXElements changes? Are you certain the field is changing again?

Weird - I've never seen that. Where's your breakpoint? What's the code? I'm wondering if you have some conditions so that the break point isn't reached the second time. You can always use a message box to show the error message, if you have to (if this is a browser form, change the compatibility temporarily, or put the error ...

The 4th row in your layout table is set to 140 px for height - could that be it? Just right click in the area around your Close button and select Table Properties and look at the row... Oh, and the layout table in the Index Change info also has the height set to 400 and some px - here's a copy of your template with some adjustments. See if ...
