Ok, good. So this is a List form. When I look at the field settings from the schema, I can see that in the List this text field was set to have a max. char. count of 1 - the only thing you could have done was change the list settings to allow more characters. So creating a new field was probably the right way to work around.

Sorry if i didn't make things clear. I have it attached. I was however able to solve the issue by picking a combo box rather than a Drop down. I spent time trying to convert the List field to a calculated field which would take String and convert the Date to string and show them both.

Thank you so much for posting the root cause for others - If you hear back from MS on the support ticket & can update with details when they have a resolution, that would be appreciated!

Update - Root cause is identified. My company has applied MCAS (Microsoft Cloud App Security) proxy and that is causing this issue.
We are raising support ticket with MS to get this fixed. For now I got myself excluded from the policy and it worked. Thanks again.

Thank you Hilary,
It worked like a charm, and gave me an overall understanding of preceding siblings.
I have been reading and using your information for years, and am a big fan.
Thank you,

What I'm trying to understand is about the InfoPath form itself - the XSN file where you are seeing the issue - is it bound to a data source, or a web service, or was it created from an existing schema? Can you attach a copy under the ...

Is this a list or a library? What are you using as a filename? If you use a different filename with each submit button this should be achievable with two separate submit data connections. You can even set the submit options on the second submit button to Open up a new form. Unless I am misunderstanding your issue.
