In my form there is a secondary data connection to an XML file that has the Month names. If you look at the formula with the XPath showing, you'll see:
xdXDocument:GetDOM("month")/Months/Month/Name[../Number = substring(xdXDocument:get-DOM()/my:myFields/my:field1, 6, 2)]

so I substituted field 1 with Journal Date since that's the name of my field with where the date picker holds data.
what do I use for Name[Number? what do the 6,2 and 1,4 represent in your formula?

I am not sure I understand this question - that's why I've hesitated to respond. :-) What are the things that change in the form? Fields are re-positioned every year? Or maybe just labels in the form change? If it were just labels, those could be made dynamic and pulled in from a secondary data source to cut back on required form ...

I'm using a substring formula to get back just the month from the date so that I can match that to the month number in my XML data source to return the name of the month. If I want to get the year from a date field, I can do that with a formula like this:

Thanks a lot for your response. I tried the solutions, but as you figured, I need to display xml forms dynamically. So, I think I should find a script to display xml in xsl format. I will inform you if I find any solution.
