I'd just use some calculated values for this, not a concat formula, where you can't set the format to date. See attached sample. Save the file locally, right click and select Design to open in the designer - from there you can take a look at the design, preview the form, etc.

The options for copying data from one repeating table to another are code, qRules (a code add in that the company I work for produces), or, if you have a general idea of how many rows your max will be, default data can also do the trick. I am attaching a sample form that uses the default data (no code) approach - save it locally, right click and ...

Just wanted to recap the resolution - since you only needed to see the ID when a previously submitted form was re-opened, you added a data connection to the library the form submits to, set it to return data for the active form, and added a form load rule to set your main data source "ID" field from the secondary data source ID field.

Is the status not being set at all? I guess I'd temporarily remove the rules that submit and close & just make sure of that first (temporarily show the status in the form). Any chance the rule on the "Item" field is affecting this?

So - are you saying the form never gets submitted with the status of "Supervisor Approval Needed", or when an item with that status is opened, it doesn't switch views, or something else?
-
Did you check your form load rules? One of the conditions looks weird to me, at least in the copy of the form I have.

I'm not sure what you mean. Can you attach a screenshot or your form under the options tab in a reply?

Here's what we usually do - add a field to the form that has a unique id of some kind - like user name and now(), for example - set the field on form load if it is blank, that way you know you have a stable, unique ID. Promote that field to the form library. Add a query to the library that includes this new column and the ID column - don't ...

All righty! I see what is going on. :)
So - the thing is, InfoPath is NOT going to save data to that XML file when you submit the form. Your "Header" XML file is stored in the form template as a resource, and every time that data connection is queried, it will return the values in the XML file. InfoPath is not going to ...

If you need to rename columns, you'll have to remove the promoted properties and re-add them, unfortunately....
