So the original section has two formatting rules on it; the first one is formatting and shows "vendor = preceding sibling::Sharepoint...." (Name: Hide if already displayed) and the other is SO number ≠ SO number (Name: Hide for SO number). I've poked at these rules a bunch, but I cant seem to make it display filtered results based on ...

Hi all,
I am trying to understand how count(preceding-sibling) works. Everything I did just throw me an error and the formula wont work at all. Could someone more experienced help me to build it and maybe I'll understand how it works.
So, this is my structure:
All of this is coming from a SQL Database apart from the last 4 ...

So this is a bit of a strange one and I cannot seem to figure it out; I should preface that I'm fairly new to InfoPath.
I have a form with a repeating table that is pulling data from a secondary source. In order to grab the appropriate data I have added a field called "counter" with the default value of: ...

That's what I thought, but it hides everything. which in turn causes the sum to not work properly (i think?). just to confirm, the preceding-sibling rule goes on the repeating table and the sum formula would be used 4 times, one for each quarter? what about category in the repeating table? I was just using d:category, but does that need a ...

Got it. Okay, that design checker message is an InfoPath Browser Form bug - I've only seen it cause an issue if you are using print views (if I recall correctly). If needed, I can help you with that - we can manually modify the form view files to remove the control binding. For showing other Vendor Info, for example, for the selected Vendor - ...

they are behaving exactly like I want them to, when a vendor or SO gets selected in the form, it calculates a total for that vendor or SO. the error that I'm getting is in the design checker and it references the filtered total for vendor "binding a non-repeating control to a repeating field or group is not supported in sharepoint list ...

So these two calculated values on your form - are they working as anticipated? Or are they what are returning the error you mentioned earlier? In terms of displaying totals for all vendors, for example, you can use a repeating section, and some conditional formatting to hide any that are already displayed - using preceding-sibling formulas. I ...

Thank you Hilary!
The method in the video was a bit more complicated than I could handle but your suggestion was perfect for our needs. I was able to set an absurd amount of default rows that should never be reached (and if it is we'll expand it), added a row number field using the formula "count(preceding-sibling::*) + 1", ...

In the new section, you only want the rows where the SO Number is blank, is that right? I'm sorry - I'm getting confused as to what you want displayed where. At any rate, I made that change in this version. The preceding-sibling rule is so each vendor only shows once? Since I don't know what your list data looks like, I don't know ...
