Thanks I had already looked at those two solutions and neither of them applied to my problem as far as I could make out. I have managed to repair the damage by copying mse.sln and mse.suo from the Backup folder in Application Data\Microsoft\Mse and overwriting the newer version. Everything back to normal now. Gary

Hi The form is not connected to a database but is quite large (25 views) and has 4 xml data sources. I tried disabling 'query on load' for all of the data sources and it took the same length of time to open. What about the 2 instances of Infopath in Task Manager? Gary

Hi Yes the checkbox Update this value when the result of the formula is recalculated is selected. I have tried it with the checkbox de-selected as well. I am very perplexed (to put it mildly), all of the forum posts, on this and other forums, say that it should work. Thanks  Gary
