ok i found out how to do it as long as i have the EXACT same value from dropdown 1 in the table feeding dropdown 2 (ie the value displayed in the dropdiwn) i could not seem to utilise the foreign key (departmentID) to get a match as its asking to match the value in dd1, i cant seem to get at the ID...

my web service is accepting string datatypes, maybe im doing something wrong in the infopath form when im calling the web service. im assuming i just map the parameters to my equivalent form fields?

it was created in .net (visual studio) and simply creates a database connection, populate s a dataset and i want to populate the new row details from my infopath form where i will then do the add and update.

so these users are opening the form in the sharepoint library and re-submitting after updating the allocated spaces? what did you mean by views? i havent used these
