It should be pretty similar to the samples you found - just add a calculated value that uses a filtered XPath to return the display name. Feel free to attach your form under the Options tab in a reply (with some hints on where to look for the data you need added!) and I can give you a hand w/ this. :)

Go to the data tab in the ribbon, and find the button for resource files - then from there you can export the XML file & add fields as needed. Then add the resource file back, and under the data connections, walk through the wizard again to update the schema in the data connection. You will need to add to your form load and form submit to ...

Sure, and if it turns out you actually only want to answer those questions 1x for the whole form, let me know, I have some tricks for that too (we can use some helper fields & populate your main data source repeating group fields on submit, for example)...

Rebinding fixed the issue I was seeing & yah, I'll email the file to you. That wasn't a normal thing to have to do - I think it was because they were in sections bound to fields outside the repeating group, and then I just copied the whole mess into the repeating group section :)

I really don't understand what you mean by the filter error, frankly - I am assuming you are just making an incorrect selection of some kind, perhaps some screenshots would help me. This most recent form you attached is InfoPath 2010 compatible. Can you tell me what the issue is you are having using it w/ SharePoint 2010?

I added an XML file & data connection with a field for the person name. I put that on the form instead of the main data source field. I then added a form load rule to populate the field if the data in the form had that already (i.e. - you are editing an existing item). I changed your submit to use rules, and added a rule prior to submit to set ...

I'd use a helper field in a XML data connection as a work around - I'll put together a sample later today.

Hmmm. That sounds pretty odd. You published your change, right? You don't have rules on the other fields that would be affecting this field?

Took a look at your form - set the default in the Persons Name field to: ../preceding-sibling::my:SharePointListItem_RW/my:PersonsName
