I would probably get all of this outside of the form / list and into its own list. Like - a list that has two columns, one for "Role" (string or choice) and one for "Person" (person or group). You'd have entries like:
Role
Person
Supervisor
Jane Doe
Technician
John ...

I did a quick experiment, and with a single select person picker in a list connection, the Display Name worked for me in a query. Give that a try. :)

I think a list of users is easiest. I would have the column with the user information just be a person or group picker - then when you connect to the list from InfoPath, you can disable the button if none of the values in that list column match the current user (using the userName()) function).

I currently have a form that is for a multistage approval process upon the last approval the form is opened in read only from that point forward. What has been requested is a way that an admin/super user can go back into the form and edit it. If at all possible i would like to just add a button that is controlled either by a list ...

I've noticed the Query field (text) for a people picker control is not the same as the Data field (Group) - screenshot ...

One thing - if you need to work around the five condition limit, change the first dropdown for your condition to "the expression" and you can copy out the actual XPath to the condition and add the "and" or "or" as appropriate ...

This if for InfoPath 2013. Came across a previous thread for writing values from a MLSB to another control which was very helpful for understanding the double eval formula.
I am attempting to do something similar, but append the selection values within the MSLB control. Currently, I have 5 conditional form load rules which trigger and set a ...
