Thanks Ernesto, I'll give that a try. :) My form is an electronic purchase order and my Database has a Stored Proc that generates a unique PO number with a string prefix (e.g. PO34421) every time a new form is created so I'll see if I can use that string.

It works. Thanks a lot. I am using browser based form. When I try to deploy it I am getting an error "Unsupported Control Binding".

I have created a form and activated it in site collections A and B. I can open it from it's Form Library in site collection A and fill it out/submit it. I am currently am using the max + 1 technique but sometimes it is creating duplicate numbers and I am not sure why. I thought it is because a form gets deleted but that logic doesnt always hold up. I know you can do a count as well. What are some of the best practices for doing auto num? I dont have a problem writing C# if I have to.

The main view has a repeating sections. The user enters values for report Item. For each and every report item the user enters I need to generate a, b, c.. on the preview section where I have the repeating section.
