Welcome.
Probably the best way is to have a central store, which you could flag a particular record for it to be identified by subsequent forms.
Or there are ways to pass variable to other forms.
Best is to use an Active Directory Web Service.
The the form user can be identified and all of there information can be filled automatically. Or if ...

Hey George.
This is the default behavior of a Database type form. They are limited. You can only query one group of tables and all children are returned by default.
With webservices you can have much greater control and performance.

Hey there.
With a submit data conncetion you can set the filename and control it.
You could do all of this functionality with buttons in a view.
A Save / Update / Close and use rules and logic for each.
Save submits with the same name. (I would save the filename in a field in your form)
Update changes the name field and then submits.
Close ...

I think you may be confused.
IndoPath supports many data connections with a Sharepoint / WSS item.
In MOSS they have a library for storing global connections so that they can be shared between forms, but that is all it does for you. From InfoPath's perspective there is very little difference between WSS and MOSS with the exception of browser ...

That I think is how you would have to do this.
Not super elequent but ...

Hey Tim.
This is usually referred to as a "Double hop" issue in IIS. The credentials cannot be forwarded to the second site.
You would need the data on the same server as SP or be able to pass a static service account but then you are right IPFS gets cranky.
Have you looked at Qdabra's web service suite? They are generic, ...

Hey There.
If you know the userID, you can use a web service like Qdabra's to get the rest of their Active Directory record such as location, department, manager, and email.

Hey Patrick.
Nice to see you are still plugging away on Infopath :)
Microsoft says that the realistic limit on Sharepoint lists is 2000 items. Otherwise the performance steadily degrades since the view loads all of the data and then filters the items.
Without web services, InfoPath must load the whole list, which takes a long time with ...

Not sure, but sounds feasible.
Let us know if it works or what you find out.

You may want to look at Qdabra's migration tool.
It will move the templates and any documents and relink them which I beleive is what you are referring to.
