Thanks - a mockup made it easier. I don't use filters on repeating tables usually - I don't like having to hunt for them later - I use conditional formatting. What I did was put your commitments inside a control bound to services, added conditional formatting to that, and it appears to work correctly now. Save the attached file ...

Attached is a mock-up of the form, Hilary. Thanks for taking a look.

Nevermind! Seems it works... I must have had something screwy with my rules but I cleaned them up and now it's working great.

Sure. I'm having a little difficulty connecting to my work computer at the moment and will have to scrub the form a bit. It is built with a secondary datasource connecting to a SharePoint list for the list of services that won't be accessible. So, I will build a quick and dirty simplified form that reproduces the problem and post that.

Yes you can yield the same result using the above description, You just need to account for the value, maybe you add another field. your Yes/No will set a value of "Yes" when the field = "Yes" and set it to blank when the field != "Yes".
Use the new field in your concat statement

Perfect, thank you!
I also have one more thing I would like to add.
I had an option box with yes or no answer to a question. I would like that if the answer is yes, that be added to the subject, but if the answer is no, it not be added. Is there a way to do this.
PS. I got all of the concat things working, all of that is perfect :)

Mind sharing your form? Under the Options tab... If I look at the template, I'll be able to understand your post a little better. :)

When form loads, I want the drop down to default on option A and have all the rules of option A execute too. So I added a rule on form load to set the drop down to A, but the rules do not ...

I am working on a codeless solution in InfoPath 2010 (qRules is not an option) and I have a nested XML structure like the following:
root
services (group)
service (repeating group)
serviceId
serviceTitle
commitments (group)
commitment (repeating group)
commitmentTitle
...
elements (group)
serviceId
...etc. ...
