Are you querying the entire table every time? If so, the form is probably running slowly because you have so much data in its DOM. Perhaps you could consider querying only a portion of the table as necessary.

Yes, I would imagine you could use conditional formatting to hide the text box when /my:myFields/my:ErrorMsg is blank.

My observations agree with Hilary's.  eventObj.Site should be the node of the new row.  Please make sure that your code is in the OnAfterChange event of the repeating group itself, not on the parent of the repeating group.
