Ok, sure thing. the first thing I did was create a group in my main data source that mimicked the dataFields group in the secondary data source:
Notice that I chose to use different names for my groups, but for simplicity's sake, I used the same column names and in the same order. Note however that I used elements for the column ...

Your
var Enteredby = XDocument.DOM.selectSingleNode("/my:myFields/my:EnteredBy").text;
line looks ok, but you will get that "object required" error if you reference a node that does not exist (e.g. it is in an optional section that is not included at the time) or if the XPath is misspelled, and that includes case. ...

I see. In that case the procedure would be about the same, except that the code in step 8 would be more like this:
public void number_OnAfterChange(DataDOMEvent e)
{
if (e.IsUndoRedo)
{
// An undo or redo operation has occurred and the DOM ...

Sure, I can give you a quick example of how to do this. Note that this example will only work with InfoPath 2007, so I hope you have that version :-)
1. Make sure that you have Visual Studio Tools for Applications installed. This is available as part of the Office 2007 installation but you might not have it installed yet.
2. Create a ...

I can't be sure, but it sounds like the form is running slowly because it is weeding through the entire 5000 row table in your secondary DOM when the rule is run. You may want to consider instead running an SQL query to get the employee you want, and not store the whole table in your secondary DOM.
For examples of how to ...

Saving a form from InfoPath only saves the data that is in the main data source. Since your query results are in a secondary data source, they naturally would not be saved with the form, so if you want to save the data, you will need a way of copying it over to your main data source.
I can think of two ways to accomplish this. ...

I am not aware of such a function in InfoPath, but I've thrown together this C# that can convert any number from -10^16 - 1 to 10^16 - 1 into words. Just pass the number into SpellNum and it will return the number in words as a string:

Supposing you had a file attachment control bound to /my:myFields/my:group1/my:group2/my:fileField, where my:group2 is a repeating group, you can find the total number of file attachments in the group with
count(/my:myFields/my:group1/my:group2/my:fileField)
Note that this is only for explication and you don't have to type this all by ...

Does your solution access Active Directory by any chance? 0x80072020 seems to be an Active Directory authentication error. I'm not too well versed in solving authentication problems, but the following might help get you pointed in the right ...

You can also use the XmlConvert.ToString() method to convert a DateTime to an XML date, though it doesn't make much of a difference in this case. You still have to provide a format string since InfoPath won't accept dates with the time in them:
newNode.SetValue(XmlConvert.ToString(DateTime.Now, "yyyy-MM-dd"));
In either ...
