great questions
use a single webservice that takes the xml as a string and saves it in the db and then performs the db mapping using a resource file that describes the mapping. benefits:
single web service for multiple xsns - no need to install separate web services for each XSN
you change the form and the submit doesn't break - since ...

Hi GMLear (btw, I laughed at your icon!).
From the stack trace, I'm guessing that your code generates an xpath that is invalid because the node it references doesn't exist.

Hi Karen,
Well, I'm guessing that the signatures block may allow multiple signatures (to do countersign). That would involve a repeating list of signatures. Just a guess though. You may have found a bug in InfoPath's ability to upgrade signed frms.

Hi Stone,
Any XML format will work, just make sure the tags match up. For example:
<Data>
<Group>
<Field1>Value1</Field1>
<Field2>Value2</Field2>
</Group>
<Group>
<Field1>Value3</Field1>
<Field2></Field2>
</Group>
</Data>

Hi Pavel,
Qdabra developed it's Web Service Suite (DBXL) to address this exact scenario (and many others). Qdabra pays for the InfoPathDev site (which is free to the community). What you want to do is complex and our standard response is to tell people to get the free trial version of DBXL and if you like it, the Beginner license is <$500. ...

Sounds like a limitation of end points. Have you tried setting Security permissions on the endpoint? Maybe you can then have the endpoint impersonate one user.
The other option would be to install Qdabra's Web Service (DBXL) which allows you to configure permissions at the XSN or XML level using Active Directory groups/users. Might save you ...

Qdabra just released qRules v2.0 with the new Set Value command that does exactly what you have in mind. It filters a repeating table based on an xpath parameter that you create based on other fields. qRules includes a collection of the most common InfoPath commands that would require code. You can inject qRules into your form and just set the ...

If you create your form using an XML Schema (File->Design...->New from Blank) you can't submit directly to a DB. That's because the schema is XML and not based off SQL data types. Submitting directly to a DB after form creation was never an option in InfoPath.
If you create your form from a DB, you already have the submit data ...

Just download a free version of qRules 1.8 from Qdabra.com's site and you can do it without code.

Well, you could use a Web service and have your app run on a server. If you have a need to do it all client-side, I'd write code to save programmatically and start your app with a command line that includes the filename. That'll require Full Trust which is not a best practice. Web Service would be best practice but ether way should work ...
