When you edit the default values of a repeating section, they always get repeated for any other instance that is inserted. Instead of using Default Values to set the node values, you can use code or Rules.  If you are just setting the value of nodes that are already present in the form when it is open, then you can use Rules, but if you need ...

A formula is definitely the way to go here.  No need to add extra code when it's unnecessary.

Hi oldradio99, I have not used this specific application, so I don't think I'll be able to offer much help, but if it is backed by a database, you could just create a new table that stores the InfoPath forms, and then links to the ID of the corresponding rows in the FileNet tables.

Hi Happydigit, The code looks alright, but I have never used this utility, so I don't know how else to advise you.  Does the utility have a forum? It seems like they would be more knowledgable on this subject.

Look around a little bit for the count() function.  You can use this to see how many instances of a repeating group are present in the XML.  If it is equal to zero, then you will need to fire your data validation.
