Thank you for the additional information. Here is a short video of a cascading drop-down approach we use, which is quite similar to what you want to have on your form. Basically, there are categories to choose from which filters out the choices, and I've tested this approach on a repeating table and it should work. If not, kindly attach a ...

The current work around I have come up with is to have the drop down box list all the options (about 120) with the menu items name being set up as Category:Item Name so for example Breakfast: Eggs Benedict. This prevents the duplication issue but I really do not like 120 choices in the drop down.
Any other suggestions?

So - maybe instead of asking more questions, I'll explain why I'm confused. Usually I work on an InfoPath form saved locally, then I publish the form for users to fill it out - generally I publish to a Network location everyone can access or I publish to SharePoint. It sounds instead like you are opening the form from the published ...

Another option I thought of (and I am not sure if this can be done) would be to have some type of control that allows the user to select a menu category (Appetizer, Salad, etc) and then select their menu choice from within that category. If that control could be set up in a repeating section. The user would just pick the category for each new ...

Sorry I'm not being helpful am I.
I can save the file elsewhere with "save as" but the file path is linked on an intranet system for the many many users to access it and so any changes that I make in a new file do not circulate out to the users and I am prevented from overwriting the previous file with the same error message within ...

Where do you open it from? Local file system? SharePoint? If you make a copy of the file, then right click the copy and select design, are you able to save? Same issue? What about "Save As"?

wilkies0106aw is suggesting that you need more conditions on your validation rule - if your drop down is populated and your date picker field is blank, then the validation rule should fire.

Thanks for the suggestions Jennifer.
Perhaps I need to make the scenario a bit more clear. We use an exclusive browser environment, primarily because not all users have Office 2010, and some of those customers don't have InfoPath Filler installed. Also, there's a great number of Office 2007 installs in our organization, and my ...

Sorry. I get this message every time I try and save the form, I can go in to it in design mode, make any number of changes, run in it preview mode to make sure that my changes are all tickety boo and working as they should but then when I click to save the file I get this error message. I've had it in Infopath 2003 and 2007 which ...

Hi Don Stephan,
Here is a screen shot of the form in which I have selected a breakfast item and have not selected the appetizer item yet. The drop down is displaying the MenuItemID of the Breakfast Item. When I set the drop down value to blank when it is not blank it does not store the data properly (the drop downs are just blank)
