To change the data to SharePoint I don't know how to automatically upload the data but I think it's possible with code. It might just be easier for now to just have users update the XML file if you don't want to retype all the data into a SharePoint list.
You shoud put the lookup XML file in a different document librar like ShareDocuments. ...

If a single form contains multiple rows from the Excel spreadsheet, then you can use Excel's data map feature to convert the excel list to a single InfoPath XML file. If each row in Excel represents a separate InfoPath XML file, then you can use Excel's map to map the Excel data to the InfoPath schema, save that as XML, then write a script to ...

How are you adding the additional sections? Are you adding the controls or dragging from the Data Source? Also, do you have fields in the nested sections?

When you say you are unablet o edit the XML files on SharePoint could you describe where you have put the files and how you're trying to edit them.
In terms of automatically updating the files with newly input info, that would require code a more elaborate approach to your names lists, using a database or SharePoint list instead of the XML files.

You're welcome. You have two options. When you use the method I suggested it stores the XML lookup in the XSN template. Instead you can also consider storing that XML file on a server so it's queried each time the form is opened and so would get any updates. Or you can instead use a SharePoint list to store the data and do you secondary lookup ...

It's ok to still have the dropdown. You just have to be sure that in your ''template'' the exact same value is used for the state/province as corresponds in your state/province lookup.

You can do this a number of ways. The best way is to create a separate XML file which has the ''person records'' with all their extra data. Then add that as an additional Data connection in your form.
Then have your dropdown get it's values from that secondary source name field.
Finally, write a rule on the dropdown with multiple actions to ...
