Try adding another button that is a Submit button instead of a Rules button and see if that makes a difference? Your current button looks right to me, so I don't know if that will make a difference or not.

Right after you sign it? Or when you reopen it after it has been signed and saved? Are there default values that may be using secondary data sources that are recalculating w/out you realizing it?

I need a little more help understanding. You are saying that you have a SharePoint list that has both the possible users & their supervisors? And a data connection to the list in your form? If that's the case, you should be able to get the supervisor with XPath - attach your form under the Options tab in a reply & I can help you out...

SharePoint Online won't connect to most REST services from InfoPath browser forms - so using UpdateListItems is probably not going to be an option.
-
So - if you are storing the ID, I'd expect to see this if the control was not a dropdown (i.e., you displayed the value in a calculated value or a text box) OR if the query to get the data for the dropdowns was not running when the form was opened. Any chance I can see your template? You can attach it to a reply under the options tab.

I'd probably use Flow for this.... or SharePoint Workflow. Is that an option?
-
Oh, I'm confused again. :) So - this is the SharePoint List ID field you are talking about? Obviously, your form has to have been saved to the library to have an ID.... you are saying the built in ID column in the library doesn't have a value? Or is this a promoted property that is supposed to contain the same value as the list ID?

Ok - so are you saying you have this resolved? Or are you still having an issue? What happens when you try to submit the form the 17th time?
-
Wonderful & thanks for the updates - they are sure to help someone else along the way. :)

Yeah, that's what I'd try. I have done this in browser forms - but not in list forms. So you may run into other issues. But it is simple & quick to try, given your requirements.
