You can change the rules on the text box and this won't affect the previous values stored in it.
If you change the text box to a dropdown, the previous values in the text box will likely get wiped out. Users would need t re-select a value based on what the dropdown offers.

You basically have two processes:1. Users fill out the form where they select a vendor
2. A list of vendors must be maintained. You could have a SharePoint list of vendors, for example, maintained independently of the form. The form would simply read the values from the ShP list. This would be the easiest solution to implement.

When you want to use an InfoPath form in the browser, and the form contains code, you must admin deploy the form. Here are some Microsoft links to help you:

Thanks for the information. We will investigate and let you know what we find.

The username() function returns the currently logged in user.
For the second question, can you please re-state it? It's a big jumbled and confusing to read. A screenshot of the rule as well as full xpaths (not just field names) will help too. Thanks.

Hi,
You will need to add user roles to your form. Here are some links, but a quick Google search will reveal more resources. Good luck.

Yes, it is theoretically possible to use the command this way. Let us know if you run into issues!

Save and submit are different operations.
Submit, as you mention, will submit via email. You might need to edit the data connection to add your email or modify the email settings.
Save simply saves the xml to the location indicated by the user.

You're describing a process that I don't know can be accomplished with InfoPath forms. If you find a solution, please come back and let us know. Thanks.
