Are you using qRules for calculating the date diff? For any control that should execute a qRules command, you need to set postback to always.

So - in the screenshot I see the red asterisk - do the users that can submit with fields blank see that red asterisk?

Hi Hillary,
The cannot be blank checkbox has been selected and I also tried setting up a rule for it but I am not very savvy on the rule setup. I tried adding the xml file but its too large of a file is there some other way of sending it to you? I'll attach a screenshot of it.

Hi & welcome - this gets a little tough w/out code. Usually, I'd create a main data source that has the structure I need, with nested repeating groups, for example, to get the layout I want and then use an XSLT to transform the list data and copy it into my main data source. That makes it easier.

How odd, I've not heard of this before. Can you get an XML that has been submitted with one of the required fields blank? It would be interesting to look at the XML to see if the field is really really blank. This is just the cannot be blank checkbox that has been selected? No custom validation?

Hi,
This is in production environment.
"Turn off custom errors" where should I do that - Sorry probably a stupid question?
No recent updates applied - we are behind with updates - I think I remember us having a problem last year with the form which Jimmy developed for us - and we ended up having to publish it as an admin ...

Here's what Jim suggested (and a question):
I would do as the exception notes and turn off custom errors to get more details in the logs. Unfortunately, you need to know which site is being called so the appropriate SharePoint web.config can be modified. An iisreset will be needed after the change.
If it is a test ...
