Oh boy, I wish I could just borrow your InfoPath mind and this would be so much easier lol. I already have formulas in both of my two fields: "Hours_Total" and "Absence_Total" which adds the fields in Monday through Friday up. Thanks for the reply.  I actually figured that is what I needed to do but I didn't/don't know how to say "if these two boxes don't equal 40 trigger an error", in the rules/error boxes. Would you be able to tell me step-by-step how to do this?  I am using InfoPath 2007.   Thanks
