• Re: Data Connection issue using UDCX to SQL Server

This may be too little too late - I would recreate the data connections from a new form (or the same one) and then convert them to UDCX files again. Put those files in the same location and then either modify the existing data connection in your form to use the new connection file, or make entirely new data connections using the new UDCX files ...

  • Set default value of a field conditionally

The attached XSN file gives a decent example of what I am trying to do. I need a field inside of a repeating section that either defaults to the "Master" field at the top of the form *or* grabs the last iteration of itself (from the last copy of the repeating section). In my XSN template I have the necessary XPath expressions to ...

  • Re: Check if a field value is contained in a secondary data source

Thought of the solution while I was falling asleep last night; was sure to write it down! Look at the attached XSN file; it serves as a direct example how to accomplish this if my explanation is not clear. In the attached file I use a repeating group as the data source (rather than a secondary data source) since anyone will easily be able to ...

  • Check if a field value is contained in a secondary data source

I have a field that reaches into a database and pulls out some line item numbers; they are placed into a combo box. I'd like to make a separate field (that I can type into) that will give me an error if the value I type matches one of those line items (i.e an entry already contained within the combo box). Something like, "This item ...

  • Use rules to change a Combobox to a textbox

Without any third party tools, without any custom code can one use a standard rule to change a combobox into a textbox. I realize that the standard way to do this would be to have two sections that show conditionally and house the different two control types, both tied to the same data source. Any *easier* way to do this?

  • Re: storing odc file (data connection library)

Aaaaand 6 years later I'll go ahead and answer. :P Just open up your data connections list and choose the data connection that is using your ODC file. Click on the button that says "Convert to File". You will be prompted for a URL which is the location where the new UDCX file will be stored. All the needed data from your ODC file ...

  • Re: How does InfoPath implement XPath?

Jimmy, Thanks for responding! This is more of a discussion question as I am trying to better understand how InfoPath uses XPath. Take a look at this StackOverflow question about "current" vs. "context" node. When referring to the "current" node, I don't actually mean the "current()" function but ...

  • Re: Select value of field based on another node

Lol - well, I gave it some thought over lunch and the solution is actually quite simple... I just need to use a third node. Instead of storing the "Sub_Node" value in "Sub_Node" if "Sub_Node_Checker" is "True" (I.E. the sub node value differs from the master) I just use a third node that has the ...

  • Re: Select value of field based on another node

Hey! I hate to come back to this but I realized a slight problem... Whenever the "Master_Node" is changed, all the fields clear (if the "Sub_Node_Checker" is equal to "true"). I believe this is due to the fact that the "Sub_Node" field recalculates on change. Since the "Master_Node" is a part ...

  • How does InfoPath implement XPath?

InfoPath's use of Xpath expressions as default values in the data source (I.E. the context node) tends to baffle users on StackOverflow. I am often told, "XPath doesn't actually change anything"; this true as XSLT is used for XML transformations. When I state that the XPath expression is housed *inside* of a particular ...
