Yes you can use XML file as the secondary data connection and populate the fields in the order form.

Its advisable to use a Database to store the information of the Customers, if the customer list is large. If it is stored in the XML there would be perf issues later.
Insert a Rule on the Button to Switch Views when the button is clicked.
Using rules you can populate the fields below depending on the value selected in the dropdown.

Welcome to Infopathdev Forums
Open the datasource in the Design Tasks
Right Click on the Node where you want to add the Field
Add the Field and drag the field into the View
Open this field properties by double click on it
Select default value and insert the Substring function on this field

You are getting the error because the Infopath form mismatches with infopath form template.
If you have removed some rules in the form then you should also remove the same in the Infopath form template and then publish that again and then upload your form to that template.
