Hey Shaun.
The error here would be pointing to your permissions on SQL. If it works fine local but not remote and this error occurs when connecting that data connection SQL is denying your request. You maybe want to try running the query via manager when connected remotely to debug this. It could also be your Internet Explorer ...

I wuld guess you have an issue with SharePoint or your InfoPath installation. Have you tried publishing your form to a local or network share and opening it from there?

This could be done a couple different ways.
I think the easiest would be to do the check in the form itself when it is being attached. I would have rules that check the attachment field and then notify the user via an alert box or whatever you need.
On the backend you could parse the xml file itself and find the attachment field and ...

Yes the promoted properties cannot be changed in SharePoint they just display what is in the form.
Now does the Workflow ID and other fields get assigned in the form? Or do you want them to be modified by some external process? You are pretty much stuck editing these fields within the form.
OK, I just had one idea, have not tried it, but I ...

InfoPath can do a lot but you are right in some areas it is limited.
What I have described is possible. You are right, you cannot submit to multiple seperate tables in InfoPath, however, you can query and submit to related tables as long as they have a one to many relationship.

For your second issue you might add this to your logic and look first if it ...

OK that helps.
First I would recommend the Database Accelerator product. It would make what you are trying to do, interact with a database, much easier.
Qdabra Database Accelerator Suite Version 2.0 - Developer
There are tutorials available in the files area.
To do this correctly with Access or SQL Express you would need to change ...

I don't think the version upgrade would really affect this. This is a great, out-of-the-box solution, with Outlook.
You should be able to give Domain Users group access to the site or the form library and not have to worry about individual permissions or creating a SharePoint account. You may mean the setting up of alerts ...

So you are wanting a text field where users input a comma delimted list of tools that they lost. Correct?
Then in another view or another form they query this data? How is this done? Is the data being stored somewhere or are you merging forms or what? How are all project forms aggregated?
I would either provide a list of tools which ...

Hey Simon,
So you have a Data Connection which receives data from the SharePoint Library. One thing is make sure you have either the query when form is loaded checked or you are querying the data connection before you try to access a field value from it.
Second, if you have multiple forms in the form library the query will load all ...
