Hope the images explain, first one is the InfoPath setup that makes the cascade. Second is the list column definition in sharepoint.
I've done this a couple of times in the past but don't remember striking this ...

What I am trying to explain is that it appeared to me that you were running a query that would return only one item - so you should be able to set the field to the value of that column in the secondary data source without using an XPath filter at all.

Actually, in a SharePoint list form, a drop down is usually a lookup column in the list, I think ... So I'd expect the control wants the ID for the item you are choosing. What is your drop down set to in the drop down properties? I think the value should be the list item's ID. Can you give that a try?

Hi there,
Required fields(Text Box Properties->Cannot be blank) by default show red star. You can make a field a required field without the red star showing by adding a rule to your submit button. Disable the submit button if the value of this field is blank.
Hope this helps!

Did you ever resolve this issue? I'm having the same problem. I am using a text field however [Reminder], type is number, no decimals. The formula shows no errors, addDays(Reminder, today()), but when I test the form, the resulting date field shows an error when I set a 'Reminder' number.

Simple sharepoint list being customised in InfoPath.
2 dropdowns. I is a lookup to a list. The second is a data connection from list values based on the selection made in the first dropdown.
Everything is fine except when the 2nd selection is made the form complains that only integer values are allowed.
Should be no integers involved, both ...
