Hello GarciaJ,
generate-id() is actually an XPath function, not XSL. I don't know of a way to evaluate the values of scalar XPath functions in VBScript, but like any XPath 1.0 function, generate-id() is available in the InfoPath designer, and you can use this to generate an id for any node you like.

This is the technique we use and suggest for copying data from one repeating group to another:

The above document involves a SharePoint-based solution, but I believe the method described on pages 12 through 25 applies just as well to your situation.

Why not just use webservConn.Execute() (no arguments), and use InfoPath's built-in data source access methods?

I think it could be confusing for users to have the time change right from under them in one field. Perhaps it would be easier and less confusing to have the time with tenths of minutes in a separate field and show them both, making the calculated one read-only?
Your description of the problem is rather confusing. You want to ...

Yeah, that's pretty much how I would have suggested you do it. Add a secondary data source with the month names and use that for grabbing the name for any month number.
-
By Month and Year, do you mean representing 2010-10-05 as 05 October Two Thousand Ten? Or is your Year the same as YYYY.
-
Just have it do the same thing as the rules on fields 1-4 are doing.
-
I see. Does field6 have a rule to recalculate the formula when its value is changed?
-
Would you mind attaching a copy of your form so that we can look at it?
The odd thing is if I deselect field5 and then select any other check box, then the field6 text in the formula text box goes away. But if I don't check another check box, it remains.
This probably means that you need to rearrange the order of your rules on field5.
