I think the reason all of your rows are being deleted when you put your functionality into the onAfterChange event is due to bubbling. Check out this tutorial and I think you should be able to get it to work:

With that number of database records Sharepoint will be fine. If you are dealing with thousands upon thousands of records a database would be much more preferable.
With one page only Infopath should work fine, but you are correct when you say you are somewhat missing the point of Infopath. It is definitely doable and InfoPath might be a good ...

Ouch. No, secondary data sources cannot be cached locally. This would be incredibly unrealistic if you were using a database several terebytes big as a 2DS.
One method would be to use XML documents as your data storage and include them into the XSN of your form template.

How about a repeating table with only one column? You could add as many different data fields into this one column and it would behave very similiar to a repeating section.

I agree with Ben. I think InfoPath would be helpful in automating some of the processes you described. He is also correct in stating that InfoPath printing capabilities are rather limited (this includes printing to PDF, fax software, etc.). It takes a while to get things to look just right, but it is possible and once you have it set then the ...

Here's how I do it (I think it's a little easier to understand):
var group = XDocument.DOM.selectNodes( ''/Xpath/to/items'' );
while( curNode = group.nextNode() )
{
var field1 = curNode.selectSingleNode( ''field1'' );
var field2 = curNode.selectSingleNode( ''field2'' );
var field3 = curNode.selectSingleNode( ''field3'' );
XDocument.UI.Alert( ...

I'm not great at SQL and that looks like a rather complex statement, but try moving the order by clause outside of the brackets and putting it at the end of the line.
If that doesn't work, leave the first one where it is and add an additional order by clause at the end.
Hope this helps, just an educated guess on my part.

Why don't you know where InfoPath is installed on Client's machines? Is it because you are trying to be as cross-compatible as possible?
You could try using some system variables on the command prompt to find InfoPath, or you could add the user's install directory to the Path variable and you will have infopath.exe available ...
