is there a reason why she or anyone wants to open browser forms from Datasheet view? what scenario leads to that requirement? It is not a good practice to do that, and I'm not so sure she ever was actually able to do that. It definitely opens the XML file if you click on the XML form title (that's expected behavior), and ...

Yes, you can utilize User Roles to do this very easily as long as it is rich client. If it's a browser form, then you can use my blog posts. They are for 2007 but work in 2010:
InfoPath - User Roles in Browser-Enabled Forms Using AD Groups

What is the purpose of the expression box? I only ask, becuse I don't know why people use them, or rather, I don't know what makes them think to use them in situations where they don't seem to make sense to me ("to me" being the key, so don't worry).

If you _have_ to write it manually, then check some other threads that show the ...

Are you saying that the conditional formatting is not triggering or that it completely goes away in the form template? If it's just not working after submission, then conditions that were met pre-submit are no longer being met.

You can try to manually upload the template to the hidden Forms folder of the library - be sure to use the filename of template.xsn. The publishing process just overwrites the template.xsn file anyway while also embedding a URL reference back to the library in each XML form that is created. Though this may work, it's not the ...

You can only hide a section, though - no read-only formatting.

Oh, the XML does have all the data still? That's great and means you don't need versioning in this case on the XML forms. Why aren't you able to just go back to the original version of the form template before you started making changes? Are you also not versioning the form template changes? This is a critical ...
