You cannot access the contents of expression boxes (except with your eyes, haha). You will have to create a new node to store the content if you would like to reference it programmatically. With this XPath the node would have to be in the Access database. I suggest adding a helper node within Infopath to store the previous, current, and next ...

I know this is over a year old, but it seems to get a lot of hits and I am getting the same problem. Does anyone know what's going on?

The reason it changes to the local copy is so that you can still view/edit the form when you are not connected to the network - this is a very key feature in InfoPath's functionality.
There's not much difference between saving and publishing, but I do know that publishing ''finalizes'' several things and updates URLs and URNs according to where ...

Yes, this is definitely possible and there are numerous ways to approach it.

The new ticket number will not be put into the database until the entire ticket is submitted. The ticket number will be inserted along with every other piece of data.
You cannot reference contents within ...

This probably has to do with your XPath, try adding the namespace on the first node:
oEmail.To = XDocument.DOM.selectSingleNode(''dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/d:MainData/@Mail'').text;
When you get the ''Object required'' error it is almost always an XPath error.
I'm not sure what you mean by your second question, but to concatenate the e-mail ...
