It sounds like you need a windows script which will go through all of your documents and rename them if needed.
Another option is this Watch directory tool which I have used before. It can do renaming with replacement. You would maybe have to copy files to a folder and then back but it has a 30 day trial period so you can install ...

I do this quite often using the built in InfoPath functions string-before and string-after. These can be nested to do about whatever you want. Unfortunately, I am not sure what the Jscript equivalents would be.
Can you do it within Infopath instead of code? Often you can set up a rule that will just validate the value and if needed strip ...

Right I knew you were using SQL but thought I would make sure you had that info.
Are you using the IP address or the name for the SQL Server? I do not think that should matter but typically I always use name.

The only thing I could think of is to create a script and .bat file that the user uses instead fo the template directly. It could verify the DB and prep if neccessary and then launch the form. I think that would be the only way to get ahead of that check.
Send me an email and we ...

Not in the UI, as you have noticed it is not in the list of actions. Sometimes you can use conditional formatting on sections and such to replicate to the user the layout changing without changing views which you can tigger with anything.
There may be a way to hotwire something in the manifest.
It can probably be done via code.

This is an eleborate, yet impressive, strategy for overcoming performance issues.
Best Practice would be to look at the Database Accelerator, Qdabra Database Accelerator Suite Version 2.1 - Developer and switch to accessing your tables via web services. These will perform better over the network and you can query on ...
