  • Re: Populate Main from Secondary on Open

At this point I will need you to provide more information about the forms and your intentions. I'll need this in order to understand what you are attempting to do and what is actually happening. Greg Collins [InfoPath MVP]

  • Re: Parameter passing between infopath templates

When you used the word ''template'' did you mean that? Or did you mean the live form? There is no communication between templates (i.e. InfoPath Designer), only between forms (i.e. InfoPath Editor). As for the editor, you have an XDocuments collection off of the Application object. You can get to all open forms and pass data between them. If you ...

  • Re: Refer to .text value of a bound control

XML Spy is definitely useful. They have a free Home Edition, but it lacks the XPath testing capabilities of their $500 Professional version. There are other XPath testers available (try Download.com). You had a learning experience. It is likely you will pay much more attention to whether you are accessing an element or an attribute now. You may ...

''An item with the following index deos not exist in the collection:Main Connection'' Main connection is the data connection that i need extended. This looks to be a very simple procedure. • Re: Refer to .text value of a bound control

I got one of my XML buddies to help me. Turns out I should probably invest in XMLSpy (or is there something free out there that will work like XMLSpy??) because I didn't have the XPath correct. The correct way to get the value ended up being: queryValueManager.text = objwsUser.DOM.selectSingleNode(''//EMPLOYEE/@REPORTING_MGR_EMPLID'').text so ...

  • Re: Populate Main from Secondary on Open

I am working with the rules method, but am only getting the first parent item and child item even though they are in a repeating section. Why does the form not retrieve all of the parent items instead of just the first one?

The two values passed will be used to populate into two separate text boxes in template 2. All help is deeply appreciated. Many thanks in advance!

  • Re: Refer to .text value of a bound control

It sounds like what you need is to use XDocument.GetDOM(''NameOfWebServiceDOM'').selectSingleNode(''//REPORTING_MGR_EMPLID''); or something to that effect. GetDOM() is used to get a reference to a non-main DOM. Does this help? Greg Collins [InfoPath MVP]

  • Re: Populate Main from Secondary on Open

Without scripting you'll need to use the Open Rules. But this can be tedious if there are numerous fields. The best thing to do is to have the main data source (or at least a subsection of it) identical to the schema of the secondary data source. Then you can use script to just do a clone of the secondary data source, and then do a replaceChild ...

  • Launch Files with Extensions Other Than .XML in InfoPath

If you or your company has been using XML files for a while you may have a large collection of them with file extensions other than .xml. Let's assume that these files have the extension .xdf (XML Data File). InfoPath will allow you to use these .xdf files as main or secondary data sources without renaming their extension. By typing the full ...
