You are right -- I don't know much at all about datasets at this point. Perhaps I'll eventually work on a project that will force me to learn them.
I'm glad you were able to figure the issue out, and thank you for sharing your findings with us.
As for the other repeating issue, perhaps you can modify the manifest or view .xsl file to fix that? ...

Unfortunately, I don't think so.
Most of my issues stem from the fact that I need to use two differently named webservices; hence different adapters; hence different structure in queryFields/dataFields, since these include the name of the webservice in their structure (that's the only difference between them, at least in the returned dataFields). ...

This sounds eerily similar to my issue

I basically had to rethink my process. Instead of having the first Dropdownlist(DDL1) call the second Dropdownlist(DDL2) which in turn returned the datafields, I combined the contents of DDL1 and DDL2 into one DDL and called the datafields.

I was out sick yesterday....It may take me about an hour to get my thoughts together....I just posted something, and when I went back to view it, of course, it didn't get posted. Anyway...
What about my comment:
* if you don't make it optional, it won't work (if the field starts non-null it'll be compulsory if you try blanking it, and if it ...

This can be done with XPath ''translate'' function.

Would like to see this as an option in the functions, so that I won't have to write code for this.

How (if at all) can I accomplish the following:
My Main datasource is attached to a webservice/dataset; I get ''queryFields'' & ''dataFields''. I have a ''standard'' query which fills dataFields. I have a ''submit'' which later sends changed ''dataFields'' back.
Now, I want to have an ''alternate'' query, with different queryFields, attached ...

I'm intrigued now. I *thought* I knew what I was talking about, but you obviously have something working I don't understand.
What about my comment:
* if you don't make it optional, it won't work (if the field starts non-null it'll be compulsory if you try blanking it, and if it starts null you won't be able to get at the date picker at ...

The first question would be when InfoPath submits the form, how does it know if it will be an Update or Insert?
Rambling ---> Please don't say, because you selected the ''Insert Item'' option on the form. This definately will not be good enough, or maybe it could be if I knew what the name of the flag was so that I could turn it on if MyID ...

What I'm currently doing is attacking the dataset over in the Web Service. For instance, if they do not enter a date, I am populating the date with ''19000101T00:00:00''. In InfoPath:
Dim myNode As IXMLDOMNode = thisXDocument.DOM.selectSingleNode(NodeForMainDataSource & ''Date1'')
If myNode.text = '''' Then
