One thing that you can do is map the DropDownList to a secondary Dom with similar structure and then in the OnLoad function get the data and either replace or insert it into the secondary DOM that is mapped to the dropdownlist.
The XML structure definitely needs to be same is this case otherwise the code will fail.

The only way i can think of programmatically to set a text box readonly is to set an element value in the DOM and have conditional formatting for the text box based on the value of this element
If the text box read only status needs to be saved across Infopath sessions then you can either have this value in the secondary DOM and reset it OnLoad ...

I've been trying to filter a dropdown box within a repeating section.
The filter is supposed to ommit the selection in all previous sections' dropdown boxes.
When I run the form each dropdown box has no data.
I'm not sure whether it's something in my XPATH logic or if it is somethings else.
I'm using the filter statement...
