You made small mistake here, in my sample I replaced whole of ''d:tbl_attendees'' node with the new node. But you are appending the new ''d:tbl_attendees'' node to the old ''d:tbl_attendees'' node which is wrong according to the schema.

You can edit Schema file and have a ''nillable'' attribute on it. You can also add ''xsi:nil'' attribute to a node. Here is a way how to do it,

Okay, I have it all working saving the image and reloading it when I open the form. I still get an error though saying that the property is invalid even though the string value is saved in the form. Any Ideas?

Thanks for the code sample this was helpful. I still don't understand the proper use of the ''query data connection'' action in a rule. While you can query a specific source, what is the output of the query? That is what is not clear to me.
