ok got the ActiveX example to get the username.
Is there anyway to get rid of the warning saying:
''An ActiveX control on this page might be unsafe to interact with other parts of the page. Do you want to allow this interaction?''
it could scare some of my users

In the link above, I referenced some ways to get the current user name with script, the second one mentions using ActiveX.
''2 - Use ActiveX to get the current user name (discussed on this forum).''

If field7 in your case was name something like ''readonly'' and is of boolean type I think what you are doing makes sense.
To play devil's advocate, creating a field in a schema for the sole purpose presentation may not be best. If the presentation can be determined from the state of the data in the form some developers would consider it ...

My situation seems a bit different.
I don't have the .NET framework and I am not using sharepoint.
I am publishing the forms to our intranet. We have created an ASP (not .NET) app that lists links to the forms and users have access to forms on a departmental basis.

Is it possible during the OnLoad Event to have the value of a control checked and if it is equal to true set other controls to read only?
can you set a control to read only through code?

You're correct again....geez. I was placing the RULE to the results textbox instead of the query textbox DOH! I didn't even think about that. I assumed that it would make sense to do it on the results textbox. Man you're super helpful. Now I just have to play around and add another rule so that the user doesn't have to click OK twice when the ...
