In general, I agree with VT that Web services are a good best practice as they help abstract the data. Some costs are: installing and configuring them, performing security reviews, maintaining the abstraction, error handling, etc. Some of these costs also come up for the other approaches.

Hi,
Yet another issue with Infopath. This seemed to randomly start happening one day and I can't get it to stop. Fields sumbitting to the database are getting a lot of   (spaces) appended to the end of the text. This is mucking up my formatting. In the past the same fields would just have the text that I entered. Then this started happening - ...

Hi All,
I'm new to InfoPath and I have a really simple question here: how to auto generate number for one field?
For example, a ''Change Request'' form has a field ''Title''. The field ''Change Request #'' should be a combination of
''CR'' + ''Current Date'' + ''The sequence of the file'' + ''Title''.
I can figure out the other three ...

Yes, that is another great approach. Make your .NET classes XML Serializable. I was lead to believe the original implementation of the web service was not in .NET code. Otherwise that great practice.

I also had a situation once where I had a client that did not want to use JScript and wanted everything to be written in VBScript. I had a heck of a time trying to get an existing form to do that. I read the following link -http://www.kbalertz.com/kb_828853.aspx - and it did the trick. Following these steps will purge your manifest of the ...

Hi Guys,
I have been researching this topic for almost three days and this is the way I found to pass a complex type(object) to and from a web-service. Convert it to an XML string and then reconstruct the object on the web-service side from the string and then do stuff and then do the whole process of converting it to a string again and then ...

hello,
i've got into trouble after importing an existing form to a .NET InfoPath Project (using C#).
the problem is that the form still references the old JScript which i wanted to replace by my own code.
how could i delete those references?
(after trying to delete the reference to the script.js in the manifest.xsf the form didn't work, so i ...

My two cents has been to use web services as a means for getting and setting data:
Maintenance – You have a single point for modification.
Scalability – If your data sources are to change (access to sql server, sql server to SAP, etc.), only the web service implementation needs to be changed.
Re-usability – Code written to get and set data can ...

Hi Patrick !
When I say Filter I say that I select a item in a DropDown and based in this item I make a filter for the other fields. The filter in TextBoxes work very well, but when I apply this filter in a ListBox just work if the Case is Upper..and I'am not using any Xpath. Do you know some xpath that make Case upper ??
Thanks Patrick.

Yeah...the namespace issue will bite you...it has with me in the past. I personally do not like this ''my'' namespace that InfoPath shoves on you. I would love to sit down and write an article on XSD management with InfoPath in an enterprise. The problem is, which I can see as becoming a problem, is that developers do not see a bigger picture ...
