I don't think your data structure is workable. The field you want to calcuate the total cost in is in your main data source. Your other data is in your secondary data source. Even though you have made the field repeating, InfoPath won't automatically insert enough instances of the field to have one for each line item.
Remember, your ...

Hmmm. It would help me help you with qRules if I knew what you had tried. :)
As I mentioned, you'll need to copy the source list into your main data source -- using CopyTable if the schemas match or the work around I linked to in my first post if they do not. After you have your secondary data in your main data source, then you'll be able ...

In you initial post, I thought you said fieldzz was "read only"? Did I misunderstand?
At any rate, as soon as the field CHANGES, your rules will run. But if the field starts as blank and remains blank, no rules will run.
-
Okay -- but the concept is still the same -- the rule to set the value must be on a field that changes. So if fieldzz never changes (as it is read only -- you'd have to be changing it with another rule, since the user can't change it) the rule never fires.
-
Rules fire when the field they are set on changes. Since fieldzz is the field with the rule, and it has a read only control bound to it -- what changes fieldzz to fire the rule?
As a side note, you can use an expression box (calculated value in IP 2010) for this as well -- have the text you want to show in the expression box (in this case, a ...

What is resetting that field's selection from whatever it was to A? Something must be changing the value -- do you have any open rules in place? A default value run amuck?

So, you could use a concat formula to create your SaveToSharePoint command. Instead of typing the command into the value box when creating the rule to set the Command node, you'd use a formula:
concat("SaveToSharePoint /url=", urlfield,"LibraryName "/xpath=<XPath To Attachment>")
where you use Insert field or ...

You shouldn't need code to calculate your total cost for items, I don't think... Any chance you can attach your form to a reply so I can take a quick peek at it? Under the Options tab, there is a place you can attach a file.

Hey there -- everything in the square brackets ( [ ] ) is an XPath filter.
I don't know if it will help, but here is how I think of those filters. Our data source could have many rows of data. We want information from one of them. Everything in the [ ] are our instructions to InfoPath for how to find the right row.
In the case above, ...

Hi -- AttachToSharePointList adds an attachment to an existing list item. SaveToSharePoint submits a file to a library. Which command you use would depend on what you are trying to achieve.
Can you tell me more about what you mean when you say "a dynamic URL based on the information contained in the form"? Is the URL used contained in a ...
