sounds like you are not using relative paths.
For example your conditional formatting is probably testing a path something like: /Root/Table/Row/OtherField instead of ../OtherField.
When you do this, you always end up at the first row.

Yes, the easiest way to do this is to open your template, save out a blank form .xml file, then open that .xml file in a text editor, copy all the PIs, etc, from it, and paste them in place in your .xml file you want to open.

No - nothing like that yet. It shouldn't be too bad though.

Great! Glad to hear you got it working!

Yes, InfoPath uses the shared Office dictionaries.

I'm out of ideas for this one. I wish you luck on it.

Sounds like the ''locked'' fields are missing from the data source. If you can, find a form where its not working and save out the XML to it. See if those ''locked'' fields are even present in the XML. My guess is that they are not. So, if that is the case, you then need to figure out WHY they are not present and resolve that issue.

You can probably do what you want by using a Receive Data connection rather than a Submit Data connection. Both allow submit, the difference is that the Receive one lets you get data back as a result.

I'm assuming you are wanting to use rules and not code. Code is easy--you do the query, and if successful, get the data and populate the fields.
Rules is very similar... One action is to query. Actions following the query then populate the required fields by pulling data from the freshly queried data source.
