Add a data connection to your form that receives data. Use the lists webservice: http://myserver/_vti_bin/lists.asmx and select the CheckOutFile method. The query parameters are:
pageUrl
A string that contains the full path to the document to be checked out.
checkoutToLocal
A string containing "true" or "false" that ...

Hi there:
Looks like the rule goes on the button. You are setting the Qdabra Rules Command node's value.
Don't use the formula editor (that is, don't click the fx button) -- just paste the text into the value field as shown in the screenshot.

Hi, there -- I know I've asked this before, but I think last time it was in a scenario where you were using https:
Can you call other SharePoint web service methods from your browser form in your environment? What about CheckOutFile (which I know you and I talked about / tried in a previous form and I think in your https enviro)? I really ...

Having seen your form now, I'll paste in part of the reply I sent in email:
I understand a bit better now what you are trying to do – use a formula as a default value in XML that is a secondary data source. The problem is that InfoPath is not going to process that as a formula (as you’ve seen).
Instead, yes, I believe you could use SetValue ...

Are you entering the formula in the formula editor? Can you attach a sample form under the options tab in a reply?

Hi:
I'm sorry, but I'm confused. What qRules command are you using? Are you talking about submitting data to a SharePoint list? Or are you talking about something else?
-
So, I'm thinking you must be using IP 2007 & SharePoint 2007. Browser forms don't support filtering in drop downs in IP 2007.

Something must be happening in the publishing process. Can you try publishing the blank form, then looking at the data connection to see if it is still using the resource file? If you open the Data Connection dialog and select the Qdabra Rules data connection, the bottom half of the dialog will give you details about it. You'll see the form ...

Okay, so the freshly injected form uses the resource file in the template for the Qdabra Rules data source.... I wonder how it got changed? When you published your form, was there a little box you could tick to repoint any SharePoint data connections to the site you were publishing to? Or can you think of anything that may have redirected that ...

Hi -- are you using a data connection to the UpdateListItems method? Can you access other SharePoint web services from InfoPath browser forms in your environment (try with OData or you could use the CheckOutFile method - it is pretty simple).
If you are using a data connection, the field you are using for the list name parameter can't ...
