Hi lightman and welcome to the forum!
What exactly do you mean when you say ''validation engine''? The schema files for the Main DOM and all of the 2DSs are stored within the XSN and I'm sure InfoPath uses something from the System.Xml namespace to do the validation. What exactly are you trying to figure out?

I'm glad you figured this out! I would like to say that you can add your own fields, even when you connect the form directly to the DB. This new fields come in under a new namespace, and you can bind whatever controls you like to them!

I believe you have fallen victim to event bubbling. There are a couple of options here, but what is happening is that the OnValidate event is being called for several nodes through a hierachy. Instead of using e.Source, I suggest using e.Site, and on top of that you should probably put a limiting check on there to make sure you don't get that ...

Hello,
Actually you can keep two dropdown boxes populating them with respective dataconnections. And also using Conditional Formatting you can Show/Hide these drop down boxes. When the Check box is true show drop down 2 and when its false show drop down 1.
I hope it will help you.

IXMLDOMNodeList nlHappyFields = thisXDocument.DOM.selectNodes( ''//my:myFields/my:group1/my:group2/my:happyfield'' );
IXMLDOMNode nHappy;
while( (nHappy = nlHappyFields.nextNode()) != null )
{
thisXDocument.UI.Alert( ''State of happiness: '' + nHappy.text );
}
I hope this helps! For XPath tutorial, ...

Does anyone know what the default validation engine is that InfoPath uses to validate a document?

Thanks, Kaylan.
If I add the action on the check box to Query using the proper Data Connection, how does it know to populate the drop-down with this new connection? Right now the values in the drop-down are just staying the same...
Thanks again.
