Hey Laurie,
I know of no way to enable the save and other commands from the menu buttons while previewing the form from the designer. If you need to debug these particular instructions you could use thisXDocument.UI.Alert()s with the published form to help. Also, you can preview your form with a particular XML file by going to File -> Preview ...

Matt,
No I didn't edit the xsl file outside of InfoPath. I did some more research and came across some info on upgrading to SP2. I did that and still no luck. Oh well, I went on and recreated my form.
Thanks for your help.

Oh, ok. You should be able to translate the code above into three rules.
Rule 1: no condition, fire query to secondary dom
Rule 2: if rows on secondary dom > 0, change view
Rule 3: if rows on secondary dom = 0, display message

I know this can be annoying, but I have never heard of a way to change the formatting of the red asterisk. You might be able to do this by hand-editing the XSL that renders the view, but it seems like it would take more time to implement than it's worth. I would look for a workaround. Maybe you could add 10px of padding to the right of the field ...

Hey Angie,
So, did you edit the XSL outside of the InfoPath designer? It sounds like you are getting some errors because of this. Does Preview work with the Designer?
It might just be that the XSN has become corrupted - this happens sometimes. If you have a backup version you might try reinstating with that. If all else fails, we have some ...

If you are using SharePoint as your document repository, then you will have to use their permissions model to control access to forms. This model is not very robust and actually one of the gaps that is closed by our SharePoint-replacement: Database Accelerator. To check it out, see this page:http://www.qdabra.com/proddetail.asp?prod=QDBXL1

This does make things a little more complicated, but I think all you will have to do is adjust the XPath. I gave two XPaths in the previous example, you will need to adjust them to read as follows:
(BTW - this condition is to HIDE the row of the repeating section)
not(. = preceding-sibling::my:RepeatingGroup/my:Name) OR ...

This seems weird, but maybe on user has access to a list generated from an external file (such as an XML file or SharePoint list) and the other doesn't. This is all I can think of. However, the only way this will happen is if you are doing explicit referencing (instead of looping through all of the elements).
I hope this helps, but I think we ...

I am trying to use a URL request (via WebRequest.Create) to programmatically retrieve an InfoPath XML document from a document library using the following VB code:
Dim formXml As String = ''''
Dim req As WebRequest = WebRequest.Create(''http://server/doclib/file.xml'')
req.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials
req.Method = ...

In the InfoPath 2007 managed object model, you can reference the XML for a secondary data source from the form code-behind using the syntax:
XPathNavigator node = this.DataSources[''data source name''].CreateNavigator();
For the main data source, use:
XPathNavigator node = this.MainDataSource.CreateNavigator();
The XPathNavigator instance is ...
